With the World Cup round the corner, Air India offered its social media fans an amazing New Year gift, by extending a personal invitation to join stars Harbhajan Singh, VVS Laxman, Anjum Chopra and Nikhil Chopra, all Air India employees, on a very special Google Plus Hangout, the first of its kind by any airline in India.

The Hangout marks the launch of the Air India “Cheer for Champions” campaign on the social media. Air India has wide social media presence through Twitter and Facebook.

The “Cheer for Champions” campaign reached out to an astounding 3 million people on social media. The Hangout was viewed live by 1500 viewers! With the video of the Hangout on You Tube as well, the number of people viewing it in the days to come will see a tremendous increase.

Commenting on the launch of this initiative, Rohit Nandan, Air India CMD said, “We at Air India, have always been associated with sports and cricket deeply and we take great pride in the success of our players. Air India is proud to have as many as 11 Padmashri, 3 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, 31 Arjuna, 1 Dronacharya and 1 Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar awardees.”

In an informal and chat 45-minute session, the four players made the chat a fun-filled one, with interesting anecdotes from their experiences. They were effusive in their mentions of the national carrier’s support and encouragement to them in their early days. The forthcoming World Cup in Australia has Suresh Raina, an Air Indian, in the team. Earlier World Cups have had Air India players

The airline has been a major patron of sports in India and has on its rolls several international and national players across disciplines like hockey, shooting, chess, badminton, carrom, kabaddi and football, besides cricket.
