DUBAI: India and Kuwait have reached an understanding over recruitment of Indian nurses in the Gulf country, months after the Indian government restricted the hiring process through three state-run agencies.
The meeting was held between Indian ambassador to Kuwait Sunil Jain and Mahmoud Al Abdulhadi Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Legal Adviser of the Ministry of Health & Jamal Al-Harbi, Assistant Undersecretary for Assistance Medical Service Ministry of Health.
A Kuwaiti Health Ministry delegation is now expected to visit India in December 2015 for practical implementation of the nurses’ recruitment process.
An Indian delegation comprising of NORKA and ODEPC top officials visited Kuwait in April 2015 to finalize basic modalities with the Ministry of Health, Kuwait pertaining to the recruitment of Indian nurses.
To streamline the recruitment of Indian nurses for work in Kuwait, the Government of India had in May 2015 restricted the recruitment of nurses through the three state-run recruiting agencies that were Non-Resident Keralites’ Affairs Department (NORKA-ROOTS), Thiruvananthapuram, Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants Ltd. (ODEPC), Thiruvananthapuram; and Overseas Manpower Corporation Limited (OMCL), Chennai.–PTI
