Andhra minister visits Oklahoma State University

NEW YORK: Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for Information Technology & Communications, Government of Andhra Pradesh, India visited on March 21, his alma mater, the Oklahoma State University where from he had graduated with a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969. Ponnala was given a warm welcome by Oklahoma State University’s System-wide President

Mr. Burns Hargis; Chairman, Board of Regents Calvin Anthony; Dean College of Engineering Architecture & Technology, Prof. Karl Reid; Associate VP for International Studies Dr. David Henneberry; Dean of Agriculture Bob Whitson; and several Regents Professors including Dr. Ranga Komanduri, Dr. Ramakumar and Dr. Ramesh Sharda.
President Hargis in his remarks on the occasion said, “Mr. Ponnala was one of the finest graduates in the history of Oklahoma State University.”

Dean Reid in his speech said, “It is indeed a great pleasure for the OSU to have such a distinguished alumnus visit the campus after so many years. OSU has developed a rich tradition of producing several such international alumni who have been successfully leading their home countries very successfully in various areas of technology, government and political leadership.”

Ponnala also visited the School of Business where he was welcomed by Dean of Spears School of Business Dr. Larry Crosby and Regents Professor of Management Science Dr. Ramesh Sharda. Dean Crosby explored the possibility of establishing OSU campuses in India as well as conducting collaborative research and academic programs.

On behalf of Business School, Dean Crosby felicitated Ponnala with a citation for his accomplishments and dedication to public service along with a Medal of Honor.

Later Ponnala gave a presentation of “Advantage Andhra Pradesh – The Most Preferred IT Destination” to the India Student Association of OSU. The interactive session was attended by a large group of Indian students as well as Regents Professors. Prof. Ramakumar and Prof. Sohum Sohoni (Advisor, ISA) presented a plaque of “Distinguished Alumni from India” to Ponnala. Andhra minister visits Oklahoma State University
