Anna deplores ‘Who are you to question us’ attitude

NEW DELHI: With Team Anna and lawmakers on a collision course, Anna Hazare today targeted politicians saying their “who are you to question us” attitude is an “insult” to the Constitution.

In his latest blog ‘Politicians raise some questions and my answer to them’, Hazare however sought to blunt criticism that he was against Parliament by contending that only the House can make laws and there was no doubt about it.

But, he reminded, the Lokpal Bill came in the Parliament for passage eight times and it could not clear the hurdles.

“Who is responsible for this? People are the masters of this country and they have sent their servants to Parliament.

When servants don’t make laws, then masters have the right to ask why Jan Lokpal Bill was not passed,” he said.

“Lawmakers and bureaucrats are servants of people. But their ‘who are you to question us’ attitude is an insult to Constitution,” Hazare said.

The blog came against the backdrop of MPs cutting across party line criticizing Hazare and his team for the language used against Parliamentarians and political parties during Hazare’s one-day fast at Jantar Mantar on Sunday.

The 74-year-old activist said Britishers used to frame laws to suit their interests and loot the country.

“Now India is a democratic country. If you want to frame laws, then you have to take along experienced people while drafting the laws. Then it should go to Parliament. I hope that people in politics understand this,” he said.

Hazare said “experienced” people should be involved in the law drafting process and then it should be sent to Parliament for its passage. -PTI
