KOCHI: Undeclared foreign currencies worth Rs 1.33 crore were seized from an air passenger by the customs authorities at the airport here, officials said today.

The seizure was made last night when customs officials searched the baggage of the Sharjah-bound passenger, a native of Thrissur, on a tip-off from the airport security personnel.

It came within hours of a similar seizure of foreign currency from an Afghan national who was bound for Dubai from here yesterday.

In the latest seizure, the Keralite was found carrying US dollars, UAE Dirhams, Kuwaiti Dinars, Bahrain dinars, Oman and Saudi riyals, Customs commissioner Sumit Kumar said in a release.

The man had been detained for interrogation.

The Customs personnel had yesterday seized Rs 10.86 crore worth of undeclared foreign currencies from the Afghan national. PTI
