NEW YORK: On 28th July, a glittering function of the United States Chapter of the Indian National Congress’ annual awards was held at Crown Plaza JFK

 

New York City. The award night was to recognize Indian American leaders in different fields. The Chief Guest was Sam Pitroda, renowned telecom engineer, inventor, entrepreneur, policymaker and the technology father of modern India.

The ceremony was inaugurated by Pitroda who then presented the award of excellence to the chosen recipient, Saim Hyder. Hyder was awarded the ‘Rising Star’ Award for his contribution as an actor in the United States and India. The organizers awarded Sam for his work in both United States and India within the last 5 years. Sam has played lead roles in numerous off-Broadway shows, theatre and plays which have been acclaimed by the press in the United States. As an Indian actor Hyder has also contributed to American theaters and short films which were selected in film festivals like Tampa Bay Indian Film Festival and Palm Springs Film festivals.

In India, Hyder has just completed shooting of an intense thriller dealing with drug abuse. He is playing the protagonist in the movie. The film is directed by Tabish Zaidi who has directed films like ‘Hindi Medium’. Sam has also has been signed for the upcoming film on Subhash Chandra Bose.
