Bringing alive color & cultures of India

FREMONT: ‘Indian Culture and Remembering Gandhi,’ an exhibition of works by young artist Ramesh Chindam, is now on at Artists Gallery, representing the new generation.

Ramesh’s recent collection emphasizes on different atmospheres of Indian customs and Gandhi’s life story. Through various eras of history, the culture of India has absorbed customs, traditions and ideas from both invaders and immigrants. Many cultural practices, languages, customs and monuments are examples of this co-mingling over centuries. Being from such a diverse land, Ramesh brought all those cultural experiences into his art. These paintings depict the real texture of Indian culture and colors, imbued with deep meaning.

For Ramesh the meaning of Art is deep rooted through his life experiences. He writes that “Art to me is an expression of person. It is the physical manifestation of emotion. Art is a process: it continually evolves with time and environment. What we perceive as beautiful or consider matters of significant importance, we capture them and share them with others through our best expression. The medium could be music, literature, film or painting. Art is simply the expression of thoughts experienced through these mediums” and his collection parallels this thought.

Ramesh’s paintings differ from one another in color and or technique. Experimenting with colors and different mediums; while keeping the integrity of the fundamental forms of traditional Indian art alive is the main objective of his work.

Ramesh is constantly inspired by the country of India where he spent most of his childhood and teenage years. This environment and art of culture transformed his hobby into his profession. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Academy of Art University, San Francisco, California.

He has practiced art since the last eight years and has exhibited his art work across United States and India. Currently he is living in San Francisco working on his past themes and combining present themes to it.
