Capt K. H. Singh golf tournament makes a mark

CHINO HILLS, CA: On December 10, over 44 golfers were invited to participate in the first annual Captain K.H. Singh Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Los Serranos Country Club which was organized by International Institute of Gurmat Studies, Inc. in memory of its founder.
The mountains as the back drop and the weather in the high 60s to low 70s made it a perfect time for golf. The day started early with the volunteers Jasdeep Singh, Puneet Kaur, Prabhneet Kaur, Sukhmani Kaur, Harji Anup Singh and Sahib Singh arriving at 7 am to help set up the registration and refreshments counters for the golfers. As the players arrived, they were greeted with coffee, tea, donuts, and goody bags which included a complimentary sleeve of balls and Polo Shirt among other things.
Prior to tee off, Golfers competed in a putting contest organized by the infamous Eric Tracy, aka The Mulligan Man. At 11 am, 12 groups competed for the lowest score and other competitions organized throughout the tournament. All age groups and skills levels participated in this tournament. The youngest golfer was 6 years old, Kanika Bains. Teens Tavleen Kochar and Simran K. Singh who play on their respective college and high school teams, also participated.
David Kramer, the owner of the golf course joined the tournament to show his support for the event. During the day, warm samosas were delivered to all golfers while they enjoyed their game. Throughout the day, the official tournament photographer, Jag Reyatt, covered the event with his creative photography. The event ended with an awards dinner banquet where more than 125 people attended. The program began with a memorial speech about Captain Kanwar Harbhajan Singh, Papa, which was beautifully delivered by Ms. Payal Kaur. Two IIGS scholarships were introduced and the details for these scholarships were announced by Ms. Jaskiran Kaur.
Excellent Mexican buffet was enjoyed by the attendees as raffle prizes were announced. Raffle winners received putters, drivers, gift baskets, free rounds of golf, and tickets to the Anaheim Ducks game, just to name a few. The grand prize was a 32″ flat screen television. As delicious dessert and coffee were served, the DJ, 3 Turbans, played the latest music for everyone to enjoy.
Gurpreet Singh who came from Redlands to participate in the day-long event summed it up best, “Great Job Team IIGS!! The golf tournament was very well organized. It was very nice to see so many Sikhs on the golf course today! Mulligan Man was wonderful. To top it all, the awards banquet was nicely done! Congratulations!”
Guninder Kaur, one of the organizers of the tournament gave special thanks to all the sponsors, golfers, dinner guests and volunteers without whom this event wouldn’t have been this memorable.
