Chicago consulate hosts reception for Pranab Mukherjee

CHICAGO: The Indian Consul General in Chicago, Mrs. Mukta Dutta Tomar, hosted a reception in honor of visiting Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Chicago on Sunday Jan 29 at Chicago’s downtown Peninsula Hotel.

Distinguished Chicago Indian American community members, diplomats and local officials joined the lunch reception. Niranjan Shah, Iftekhar Shareef, Mafat Patel, Naren Patel, Balvinder Singh, Rajinder Singh Mago and many other Chicago Indian businessmen were among the invitees. ICG Mrs Tomar welcomed all and introduced the Indian business and community leaders to the visiting Minister.

Iftekhar Shareef was invited to honor Mr Mukherjee and Indian Ambassador to U.S. Mrs. Nirupama Rao with a traditional Tricolor Khandwa.

Iftekhar Shareef hailed the Chicago Indian Consul General for holding a reception at short notice. Shareef also wished the Finance Minister and his Congress Party back home all success in ongoing assembly elections. The Indian economy has maintained a GDP growth above 6.5% in the face of global recession. The Finance Minister’s strategic financial planning has played a pivotal role in the Indian economy.

Mr Mukherjee was on a visit to Washington and Chicago to join the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Later, the Finance Minister shared his views with Chicago business leaders in individual chat. The ICG office thanked all the guests for joining the event.
