Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy seen conferring Telugu Velugu-2012' and Kala Ratna-2011 awards to Guru Sujata

ST LOUIS: The Artistic Director and founder of Kuchipudi Art Academy of Dance, St. Louis, Guru Sujata Vinjamuri was awarded the ‘Kala Ratna’ award at a function organized by the State Department of Culture and the Andhra Pradesh Cultural Council at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad, India on March 30.
Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy conferred Telugu Velugu-2012′ and Kala Ratna-2011 awards to eminent Telugu achievers. Eight of the achievers were honored with the title Telugu Velugu and 15 others were identified as Kala Ratna. The prestigious Kala Ratna award is conferred by the AP government every year to legendary personalities of Andhra Pradesh who have strived to promote and showcase Telugu arts & culture.
Kuchipudi Arts Academy of Dance, St. Louis, founded in 1980 by Guru Sujata Vinjamuri, is a dance and cultural organization committed to enriching cultural diversity in the St. Louis area and to widen the horizons of international understanding through dance and performing arts and to devote its efforts to funding and supporting charitable causes in the US and around the world.
The Kuchipudi Art Academy of Dance, St. Louis has been conducting annual fund raising events each year since 2004 and all net proceeds were donated to charity organizations in the St. Louis area. Since 2010, the school has started organizing performances in India (New Delhi, Hyderabad & Tirupathi) and all proceeds of New Delhi and Hyderabad were donated to different local charities.
In June 2012, students from the school and Artistic Director Guru Sujata Vinjamuri will again be performing in Hyderabad, Tirupathi and Kolkata. Also, the school annual program is scheduled for October 20 in St Louis, MO.
