CHICAGO: A community activist, a news correspondent and a former president of Association of Indian Americans Nand Kapoor passed away here on October 7, battling heart ailments for the past two years. He was 87 and died peacefully at a rehab center in Chicago.
Born on August 25, 1931 he worked with a local government in Delhi for years and come to this country in early eighties. With academic qualification and work experience with a government agency in India, he landed jobs with local and state government bodies and worked for over two decades.
He also found time to be a news correspondent for a New York based Indian owned paper besides working with community organizations in Chicago. He was elected President of AIA and he successfully navigated that body to a new high. He had a good number of friends within and outside the Indian community as well. His absence will be sorely felt by many.
He is survived by his wife Sudakshaji. His cremation was held on October 9 at Bohemian National Cemetery on Pulaski Rd in Chicago. It was attended by his wife, relatives, friends and associates. May God rest his soul in peace.
