Community mourns passing away of Naren Patel

CHICAGO: Members of Indian community at large in Chicagoland have lost a real friend, philosopher and guide in the sudden and sad demise of community leader and activist Naren Patel.

Hailing from Ahmedabad Gujarat, Naren Patel 72, died at his resident in Schaumburg fighting bravely a pulmonary disease on December 15.

A former head of Association of Indians in America and the founder president of Vishwa Gujarati Samaj, he was a very successful businessman heading a front ranking laboratory, MedStar in Hillside, a Chicago suburb. His firm and his two well groomed sons, Raj and Neil, have helped bucketful organizing of health fairs where testing was done at no cost for the participants.

A large number of community members and friends rushed to his residence as soon as the news of his death spread. Hundreds of condolence messages kept on pouring in. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn too was quick in offering his condolences to Patel family and so was Indian CG Dr Ausaf Syed.

His funeral is slated at Russo Funeral Home in Forrest Park on Friday December 19. Naren Patel is survived by his wife Smt Sumitraben, sons Raj and Neil, two daughters-in-law, Nisha and Sonal, and four grandsons.
