CHICAGO: Indo-American Center (IAC), a Chicago based no profit body of Indian Americans, announced re-election of its Board of Directors for the upcoming year. The new Board was installed last week at a simple ceremony held at the Center's premise in Chicago.
All Board members whose terms were expiring were re-elected.  The Executive Committee of the Board was also installed and comprises: President Narinder (Ned) Gauri, Vice-President Prem Balani, Secretary Ralph Nicholas, Treasurer Sher Rajput and Past President Ashref Hashim.
Many members of the Board of Directors have been involved in leadership positions at the IAC for several years - some even since its founding in 1990. For Nicholas, it is the unique nature of the IAC that brings him back year after year. "There are really not many philanthropic organizations created and sponsored by the South-Asian community in the United States - the IAC is truly one-of-a-kind."
With the Board of Directors installed, the IAC is gearing up for the renovation and expansion of its facility, which will include an additional floor and elevator access. "That's one particular reason it was important for the previous Board of Directors to continue on this year. We have been making these plans and we've gotten past the first stage of proposals - we want to continue forward and see our vision follow through," Gauri said.
The IAC has been taking new measures to raise awareness of the IAC's purpose and mission. Prem Balani, Chair of the Development Committee, is eager to develop a new association, Friends of the Indo-American Center, recently approved by the Board and headed by Indra Goel. "This association is geared toward increasing involvement of the supporters of the IAC in the Chicago land area, to raise awareness and to achieve the benchmarked goal of $1.5 million for the facility," he explained.
Other measures are also in play. A new movie of the Center depicts "the IAC in action," as Balani describes it. "The video explains to people what we do here and is meant to inspire and spur community involvement and giving."
The Indo-American Center is a not-for-profit community service organization serving the South Asian immigrant population.
