CHICAGO: Sri Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari, world famous author, teacher, and social advocate paid a visit to the Indian Consulate in Chicago last week to acquaint Chicgoans with activities done in India for uplifting slum dwellers.

Sri Shuddhaanandaa (Baba) has been recognized by the United Nations as a  visionary social advocate for his development of ground-breaking programs which serve thousands of poverty-stricken individuals in slums of Calcutta, and in many remote villages of West Bengal. He conducts street schools in the slums of Calcutta, serving hundreds of impoverished and orphaned children with food and medical care on a daily basis.

The children are very much like those depicted in the recent movie, Slum Dog Millionaire. The programs reach over 200,000 people annually with free food and medical care.  He has also developed a groundbreaking application of Micro-credit banking for remote villages of India to help women and families become self-sufficient.

Baba Shuddhaanandaa presented the Indian Consul General with a copy of his internationally published book, Making Your Mind Your Best Friend, which was recently released in the US. The book provides a practical manual on the art of living a stress-free life.  It teaches a person how to develop the most important relationship in his life - friendship with his own mind.
