Consular Gala showcases Chicago’s prominence

CHICAGO : The Chicago Consular Corps held a grand gala recently hosted by the Chicago Sister Cities International and World Business Chicago at the Chicago Hilton Towers in Chicago that attracted the attendance of the international guests, 85 foreign and honorary Consulates in Chicago besides leaders from the business, civic and cultural communities.

The glittering gala was marked by elegance with high-profile presence of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Ms. Amy Rule. Dean of the Consular Corps of Chicago Patricia Maza-Pittsford and Mr. Philip Pittsford were the chief guests while the Global Citizen Award was presented to W. James McNerney, Jr. Chairman of the Boeing Company.

Indian Consul General Dr. Ausaf Sayeed outlined his efforts in garnering valuable scholarships for young students through the Chicago Consular Corps scholarship programs. Dr Sayeed was appreciated for his active involvement in other Chicago Consular Corps initiatives including International Peace Day, CPR Demonstrations with Chicago Medical Society, etc.

Smita Shah, Chair of the Delhi-Chicago Sister Cities Committee International, said the Gala fostered a unique opportunity to bring together Consul Generals based in Chicago to help forge a more meaningful relationship between the global corporate leaders and the consulates to focus on profound humanitarian issues

Niranjan Shah, a community leader, in his remark observed that Chicago continues to showcase the finest band of the diplomatic corps and their efforts to interconnect Chicago and the world.
The generous proceeds of the gala have been earmarked to support the work of Chicago Sister Cities International, World Business Chicago and fund Chicago Consular Corps scholarships to the University of Illinois at Chicago.
