CHICAGO: A prominent community activist in Chicagoland, Dr Harjinder Singh Khaira was nominated as President of Amritsar Medical and Dental Alumni Association of North America at its recent convention in New York.
This year was the 40th annual reunion conference/convention held at the prestigious Hotel Hyatt on the Hudson River and it was attended by over 300 delegates from all over USA and Canada. They were physicians and dentists serving in various capacities as clinicians and professors in elite medical/dental universities. Continuing medical/dental education was provided on Friday July 27 and Saturday July 28 by top doctors from around USA and Canada.
The Friday nite was for Amdaanian’s and by Amdaanian’s. It was nostalgic.
At theGeneral Body meeting on Saturday , Dr Satwant Singh apprised everyone on the latest projects handled by Amdaana – especially helping the poor and the needy medical students and charity work done in different hospitals by Amdaanian’s back home .Dr Mehta, the host of the conference, introduced the incoming president Dr Khaira.
Dr Khaira has been involved in the community since 1995 and has been instrumental in helping and organizing various events – religious, social, political and cultural for the community at large.Recipient of various community and leadership awards, he also hosted a TV show for few years.
Dr Khaira did his pre-med at Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar and then went to Government Dental College and Hospital Amritsar. In USA, he graduated as his Class president from the prestigious Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and is now pursuing his private practice in Chicagoland area.
In his acceptance speech Dr Khaira thanked his wife Harpreet, son Jaskirit and daughter Jasmine for moral support and friends for putting trust in him to head this prestigious organization
The next convention is planned in Cincinnati.
