Ethnic supporters boost Melissa Ervin campaign for Chicago Treasurer

CHICAGO: State Rep Melissa Conyears Ervin is seeking Chicago Treasurer position in the coming elections and a good number of supporters, including many Indian Americans, flocked to Sinha Restaurant on December 9.

Congressman Danny K Davis welcomed the leaders of different ethnic communities who were present. Alderman Ed Smith gave the invocation. Dr Clarence Beaks Executive Director AMEC thanked the ethnic community leaders for their overwhelming support in launching the campaign. Alderman Jason Ervin spoke of the importance of the ethnic communities vote and support during the forthcoming Chicago elections with numerous candidates contesting for some of the key positions like Mayor and Treasurer.

Dr Vijay Prabhakar, President AMEC & Founder Chair of MEATF, said that the Fundraising Dinner raised more than the target goal. He traced the historic growth of this multi-ethnic movement over the last ten years. Ms Leontine Horne, President, American Friendship Society, joined AMEC & MEATF in endorsing Melissa Ervin for Chicago Treasurer’s position.

State Rep Melissa Conyears Ervin  is a qualified financial professional with a Bachelors  as well  Masters Degree in Accounting and has corporate  experience coupled with administrative and  political expertise. She spoke of importance of ethnic communities, especially minorities, to get involved in establishing minority owned banks and detailed her campaign manifesto.

Gerard Moore in his closing remarks thanked Congressman Davis and Secretary Jesse White for spearheading Melissa’s campaign which will send the first Westside Citizen to a Chicago city wide position. He announced that AMEC will host three other fundraisers for Melissa for Chicago Treasurer before the voting date February 26, 2019.
