PALO ALTO, CA: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said here on June 15 that the BJP would emerge stronger, winning more seats in the 2019 general elections than it did in 2014. The optimism was voiced by him during an interaction with Overseas Friends of BJP in Sheraton, Palo Alto.

The event was organized by Overseas Friends of BJP headed by Chandru Bhambhra, a prominent community leader of Bay area. This event was attended by over 100 Bay area residents from all walks of life. The gathering had CEOs, venture capitalists, community leaders, technology industry experts, to name a few. The main objectives of the OVBJP is to foster a cordial relationship between Asian Indian and North American people, by establishing direct communication channels with local ethnic and national media, and organizing regular seminars on topics of mutual interest.

Fadnavis was visiting the US following a trip to Canada. After meeting investors and CEOs he attended a community reception in New York City, followed by visits to Washington and San Francisco.

“The world is looking at India as a great destination opening its doors and providing opportunities. The Prime Minister is now a top global leader and this can be attributed to good governance in India,” he said.

Fadnavis said at a time when India is the fastest growing economy in the world, is developing infrastructure and technology, Modi is simultaneously “addressing the problems of the common man.”

CM 1“We may talk about missions to the moon but even today 50% of the population does not have toilets. Look at that disparity. That disparity is being addressed by Modi,” he said. “Unless we address this disparity, it will result in a very divided society.” Till November last year, as many as 42.72 lakh household toilets have been constructed against the target of 66.42 lakh.

Referring to the growing criticism by Opposition parties (Congress) after its recent defeats in 11 Lok Sabha bypolls, Fadnavis said: “Our rivals are highlighting the BJP’s setback in 11 seats. But what cannot be undermined is the factor that the BJP has in the shortest span won more than 11 states to establish its government.”

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also met World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva in Washington DC. Two projects were mooted for the World Bank’s assistance: rural transformation through sustainable livelihood in 10,000 villages and a multimodal transport corridor in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Both projects elicited positive response from the World Bank.
