IndiaPost - Voice of Indians Worldwide: Grand Vaisakhi 2009 Grand Vaisakhi 2009 ================================================================================ JS Bedi on 18/05/2009 05:56:00 With well over 300 participants of all ages, the determined spirit of Vaisakhi was very much in evidence at the 4th annual PCC Vaisakhi event. The actual performances commenced at about 1:30 pm, with more then 600 audience filling the floor of the hall. The audience was entertained to a non stop cultural extravaganza of Bhangra, comedy skits, Bollywood dances, Bharatnatyam and Gidda for the next four and a half hours by talented children and adults in colorful costumes. Teams from PCC like Youth Bhangra Explosion, Punjab Da Lashkara, Bilo Ranis, No Problem and others showed off their talent and style. Among the community members recognized for their contributions Chief Guest Gurbax Singh Bhasin and Sohan Singh Chowdhary Dr Neena Kapoor MD is the Medical Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She is also Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Southern California. Originally from Mandi in Himachal, Dr Kapoor came to the US in the 70s. For the past over two and a half decades this lady has been doing a great service to humanity and is responsible for giving a new lease of life to many kids. She has done the Punjabis, Indians and humanity proud with her selfless devotion. This year the PCC presented her a plaque in recognition of her work and service to humanity. The PCC Working Committee comprising Iqbal Grewal, Dalwinder Singh, Arvinder Singh, Baljeet Grewal, Sharmila Sidhu, Sonia Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Alka Trehan, Rita Patel and Janet Mavi did a superb job in organizing the event. Grand Sponsor, Vijay Khosla, of Natraj & Nina’s provided the dinner after the show.
