Indian dental educators honored
India Post News Service BREA: The Punjabi Dental Society held its quarterly Expo at the Embassy Suites here in the city of Brea. It was attended by over 500 dentists from all over California. The event was sponsored by various vendors showcasing dentistry related products and services.
Dr Hans Malmstrom, Professor and Director, Advanced and Chair Division of General Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Center in the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY was the guest speaker. Dr Malmström is an authority in the areas of esthetic dentistry, implantology, laser, TMJ, oral surgery, halitosis, and cariology. He is very active in clinical research and performs clinical trials in dental implants, adhesives, cements, and bleaching agents. He has published 16 articles and 40 abstracts for various dental publications.
He is a member of the International Association of Dental Research, the Academy of Osseo-Integration, the American Association of Dental Research, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Dental Association. Dr Malmström is the former president of the Postgraduate General Dentistry Section of the American Association for Dental Schools. He was a consultant to the Veterans Administration from 1985 to 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, and served on the advisory board for public health in Georgia.
Dr Malmström was appointed program director of the Eastman Dental Center's one- and two-year AEGD Program in 1992. Under his leadership, the program has become predominately a two-year program, with emphasis on research and esthetic dentistry.
Another luminary Dr Vinod Sachdeva came all the way from Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh, India. Dr Sachdeva is the Dean of HP Dental College, Sundernagar. PDS President Dr Ranjeev Salwan introduced him to the gathering. Dr Sachdeva was presented a plaque and recognized for his dedication, contribution and selfless service to the profession of dentistry by Prof Malmstrom.
By noon the focus shifted to Diamond Palace in Diamond Bar where the Punjabi Dental Society and the Indian Dental Association jointly welcomed two more luminaries along with Dr Sachdeva.
Dr Amar Singh Rathore is the Dean of MP Dental College, University of Baroda and Dr MR Dinesh is the Head of Orthodontics and Vice Principal of RV Dental College, Bangalore. They shared the information about what their institutions have to offer to NRI students and the advantages of getting the degree from India.
Dr Vinod Sachdeva gave a presentation on power point about what his institute offers to students from America. He also spoke on the location of Sundernagar and its proximity to Delhi and Chandigarh.
This school is in the lap of Himalayas with a cool climate and zero crime rate. It offers pick up service from international airports to parents/students. Special education facilities are provided to students so that the course is completed in time. This school has all the required material in the library to prepare for US national boards.
Plaques and bouquets were presented to the luminaries. President Punjabi Dental Society Dr Salwan also did a Q & A session with the guests answering questions related to education in India.
