CHICAGO: The Sant Nirankari Mission in West Chicago was throbbing with life on May 5 when 300 plus members and supporters of Hindi Lovers Club from all over Chicagoland flocked to its auditorium to attend Vasant Mela, the first of its type festivity hosted by the Club in its seven years history to celebrate the onset of Spring here.

Besides the usual speeches and refreshments, one of the biggest highlights was the Kavya Pathan by kids and others. There were number of booths including Karokee singings and activities for kids. The Mela turned out to be a huge success and this induced the Club teams headed by Gurbachan Kaur Neelam to have this type of gathering every year.

Among the attendees were dignitaries from Chicagoland – Judge Linda Devonport, Indian Consul General Neeta Bhushan, Air India Manager Ms V Malini, a near certain new Illinois State Senator Ram Villivalan, FIA Founding president Sunil Shah and Brij Sharma, among others.

The event started as usual with traditional lamp lighting and welcome speech by Ms Gurbachan Kaur, the president and moving force behind the Club activities. She narrated the history and activities of the club and emphasized the need to know Indian national language and pitched for its wider acceptance here, especially among the second generation of Indians. She mentioned about Hindi classes regularly conducted at the Club premises on Devon Avenue and announced amidst applause that the Hindi Diwas will be held on September 7 in Naperville , a southwest suburb of Chicago, on a scale bigger than that of last year

Indian CG Neeta Bhushan in her speech was full of praise for the activities of the Club and assured all possible support from the Consulate. She also lauded the Club members for their love of Hindi and their efforts in propagating the same here. Air India Manager V Malini did not lag behind in assuring her support to the Club in its efforts to popularize Indian National language here.

Judge Linda Devonport was awestruck by the zeal with which the executive team and members worked to get Indian national language getting its due recognition here and felt that their work needs to be hugely appreciated and welcomed all-around, Ram Villivalan who shone into eminence defeating a sitting State Senator in Illinois Primary elections two months ago, said that though he would not know much Hindi, he still felt proud that Gurbachan Kaur and her team are doing their best in propagating it here among second generation Indian Americans.

He assured all his support once he gets formally admitted to the Senate
Ms Sakhuja won raffle while most of the vendors felt happy at the large patronage of visitors coming to the Mela.
