WASHINGTON: A top Indian-American physician has been selected for the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair to India.

Ahmedabad-based HL Trivedi Institute of Transplantation Sciences would host Doctor Rahul Jindal during the duration of the chair, a media release said.

The Institute performs about 400 kidney transplants in a year and has developed innovative transplant tolerance models.

Dr Jindal is Professor of Surgery and Global Health at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program comprises approximately 40 distinguished lecturing, distinguished research and distinguished lecturing / research awards ranging from three to 12 months.

Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program.

A leading US surgeon, Jindal in 2013 was presented with a prestigious immigrant award of the US government in recognition of his outstanding achievements.-PTI
