CHICAGO: A good number of Indian businessmen, professionals, and community leaders met here to show their support for Blake Sercye, a Democrat running for Cook County Commissioner from District 1. The meet was held on Sunday February 23 at Kinderhook Tap, Oak Park, a Chicago suburb.

Blake Sercye, 27, an associate at the law firm Jenner & Block LLC, is a rising star in Cook County Democratic politics and has received a rare dual endorsement from Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.

Sercye also has good ties with the Indian-American Community, serving on the advisory board of Indo-American Community Services (IACS), a not for profit organization that seeks to nurture and foster the development of the South Asian community in the region through job fairs, women’s empowerment forums, student internships and professional networking opportunities

“Our coalition is diverse and representative of the entire 1st District” said Sercye, pointing to the number and diversity of organizations supporting him.

District 1 includes parts of Chicago’s westside, Oak Park, Forest Park, Maywood, Westchester, Hillside, Bellwood and Broadview. March 18th is the Primary election date.

This well attended Meet and Greet Fundraiser was organized by a group of Indian professionals including Anil Saldhana, Venkata Majeti, Krishna Mushyam, Jagan Bukkaraju and Praveen Medikundam and Sreenivas Katragadda.

Sercye holds a J.D. from University of Chicago Law School and an A.B. from Princeton University. He is also a member of Illinois Medical District Commission, a position to which he was appointed by Gov. Pat Quinn. He had served as Field Coordinator for Governor Pat Quinn’s 2010 campaign for governor and also Political Director for Rahm Emanuel’s 2011 mayoral campaign.
