TORONTO: An Indo-Canadian Sikh provincial minister’s brother-in-law has been found murdered in his home and police believe it to be a targeted incident.
Amardeep Singh Ahluwalia, 47, has been identified as the brother-in-law of British Columbia cabinet minister Amrik Virk.
Ahluwalia was reportedly murdered in a violent attack inside his home in the Black Mountain city of Kelowna, in British Columbia, last week, police said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said they are treating the death as a homicide, and believe it to be a targeted incident.
“The police responded to a home on Feedham Avenue on July 8 midnight where they found Ahluwalia dead,” Steve Holmes of RCMP constable was quoted as saying by The Province.
“My wife has lost a brother, and my daughters have lost an uncle. We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who have shared their condolences, and I thank you in advance for respecting our privacy in this time of grief,” Virk said in the brief statement.
Virk currently acts as the minister of technology, innovation and citizens’ services, and was first elected to the provincial cabinet in 2013.–PTI
