International yoga festival ends in Haridwar

International yoga festival ends in HaridwarDEHRADUN: Curtains came down today on an international festival on yoga, culture and spirituality at Haridwar-based Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya with nearly 2000 delegates from 20 countries including the US, Korea and Israel participating in the five-day extravaganza.

Held every year by the university, it was the fourth edition of the event in which 20 spiritual luminaries and 30 yogic experts from across the country and abroad took part.

Addressing the valedictory session of the festival, noted spiritual leader from the US Patrick Mcculum said due to the varsity’s unique location on the banks of the Ganga, the festival offered a rich spiritual experience to participants.

Mcclum, a Mahatma Gandhi award winner for his contribution to world peace, said India’s deep spirituality of which yoga is an integral part distinguishes it from other countries of the world.

Noting that yoga had earned international acceptance over the years, he said, “If ever there is a movement for cultural and spiritual reawakening in the world, India was bound to be its torch-bearer.”

DSVV Chancellor Pranav Pandya said yog, culture and spiritualism embedded deep in the Indian ethos do not only enrich an individual’s life but also contribute richly to the building of a nation.

Located close to the banks of the Ganga in the Himalayan foothills, DSVV is a UGC recognised university which holds the event every year to familiarise participants with the benefits of yoga in their spiritual growth and the country’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. -PTI
