Turban issue discussed
CHICAGO: Arriving in Chicago early April 18, Giani Gurbachan Singh and Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh Khalsa were joined by Head Granthi Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib, Giani Partap Singh. This is the first time that the Chicago Sangat received a dignitary representing Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib. Here they were hosted by Baba Daljit Singh Ji.
Later that morning Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh Khalsa and Giani Gubachan Singh had a meeting with O’Hare Airport TSA manager and his team for discussions on the turban issue. Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh interpreted for the Akal Takth Jathedar.
There have been many incidents where Sikh travelers have been humiliated at security checks and the TSA has forced them to remove their turbans.
The TSA manager and his team assured the Akal Takht Jathedar that his staff will be educated on Sikhs and Sikhi and Sikh travelers will be treated with dignity and not made to remove their turbans.
