Traders protest against Chinese goods in Indian markets inKANPUR: Protesting the large presence of Chinese goods in the Indian markets, traders here today burnt an effigy of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Around hundred traders led by ‘Akhil Bhartiya Udyog Mandal’ (ABUM), reached the Ghantaghar crossing here this morning. Raising slogans against Chinese products in the Indian markets, the traders burnt the president’s effigy, his posters and the products.

Head of the traders association (ABUM) Gyanesh Mishra said, “China has also intruded the retail markets of the country. Chinese products are being sold everywhere, even the goods being used for Indian festivals like Diwali and Holi are being made in China.”

He said this has led to the economic loss for small scale traders in the country and cottage industry has suffered almost complete eradication.

The traders have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up their concerns with the visiting Chinese president. –PTI
