Kavita Arora

FREMONT: India Post is pleased to welcome Kavita Arora, the popular Anchor & Co-Producer of Sitaare TV, who will hereafter be covering Bay Area Community events for India Post. Sitaarre TV is a magazine style television program featuring star profiles, interviews, movie reviews, features, and community events.

Kavita has anchored, written, and produced over 100 original episodes for broadcast on Comcast and Ohlone Networks. She has interviewed high-profile entertainment celebrities such as: Anil Kapoor, AR Rehman, Aftab Shivdasani, Asha Bhosle, Mika Singh, Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Suresh Wadkar, Kailash Kher, Dr. Kiran Bedi (also aired on Direct TV), Munni Begum, Lisa Ray, Tisca Chopra, Darshan Jariwala, Senthil Ramamurthy, Annu Kapoor, Nandita Das, Shabana Azmi, Vinod Rathore, Tabu, Dev Anand, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwariya Rai, Abhishekh Bachchan, Prakash Jha, Sudhir Mishra, Kundan Shah, Usha Uthup, Mauli Dave, Vishal Dadlani, Sunny & Bobby Doel, Amrita Rao, and many others.

All the interviews, she says, are memorable for one reason or another.  But interviewing Arun Dutt, the son of the legendary Guru Dutt was a rare treat for her. “Arun Dutt told me things about his father that he hasn’t communicated before to other journalists.

I got to learn about Guru Dutt, some of his personal habits, interests, personality characteristics, and passion for films, from his son and that was an amazing experience.

Plus, during this entire conversation, Guru Dutt’s movie, Chaudhavi Ka Chand was being screened in the background in the historic Castro Theater in San Francisco, so I could hear the movie as well.  It was a surreal experience.  I was getting goose bumps and Arun Dutt resembled Guru Dutt so much.

This was my most memorable moment.  Another memorable moment was interviewing Dr. Kiran Bedi because she’s such an inspirational, dynamic, intelligent, and strong woman.”

Asked about her USP, Kavita said, “My USP is that I’m warm and open as a person, but I’m not interested in gossip about the artists and they figure that out really quickly and most of them open up to me.  I’m also very respectful of the artists and if they ask me not to reveal or air any part of the interview, I respect their wishes.

“I approach the artist both as an interviewer and also a fan, so I think my genuine enthusiasm and excitement about the artist shows.  Plus, I spend a lot of time and effort to research about each artist so I know pretty much everything that has been written about them or released videos before I meet them.

I’m a Bollywood buff naturally and the research part is very enjoyable.  Overall, I try to be careful and not ask any questions about sensitive areas or personal information.”

She has also developed show segments such as star profiles, community events, movie reviews, interviews, fashion, news, and talent promotion, event promotion, film promotion, and feature stories.

She says some her best episodes have been outdoor location shoots, the Switzerland location episode they shot in Switzerland and also the boat episode on a Yacht in San Francisco.

As for viewership of Sitaarre, she said, “We have viewers in all age ranges from young children to older adults.

Also, we have a broad South Asian viewership and we get feedback from non South Asians as well.  Bollywood is so popular and people can relate to it so our viewership has grown tremendously over the past three years.

“Sitaarre airs on Comcast in the East Bay on Channel 29, 28, and on the Ohlone Network on Channel 28, and is starting in Comcast in the South Bay on Channel 15.
