SAN JOSE: The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA), Pacific Southwest Region has endorsed Ro Khanna in his 2016 race against Mike Honda to represent California’s 17th Congressional District.

LiUNA endorsed Honda in 2014.
“Ro Khanna is committed to a vision of shared prosperity, where working men and women will have better wages and benefits, safer job sites and greater opportunity,” said Rocco Davis, Special Assistant to the General President, LiUNA Vice President and Pacific Southwest Regional Manager in offering Khanna the endorsement of his 70,000 member-strong region.

“But, we’re not endorsing him just because he’s committed to working men and women; we’re endorsing him because that commitment is combined with a proven ability to get things done for working men and women.”

“The strength of our community and our economy was forged by the working men and women of the Bay Area,” said Khanna in accepting the endorsement. “As we march into a new century we must find new, innovative ways to ensure we hold onto that strength by revitalizing our manufacturing base, expanding the middle class and strengthening educational opportunity for every child.”

LiUNA’s endorsement follows a string of prominent area Democratic leaders who either supported Honda or remained neutral in 2014 that have recently announced that they are now supporting Khanna in 2016. The list includes Santa Clara Vice Mayor, Debi Davis; California Senate President Pro Tem, Kevin deLeon; San Jose Mayor, Sam Liccardo; Milpitas Mayor (Frmr), Bob Livengood; Secretary of State Alex Padilla; Santa Clara County District Attorney, Jeff Rosen and Santa Clara County Assessor, Larry Stone.
