The event was highly successful as the House was fully packed with music lovers.

Bollywood Movies of 90’s (1990-2000) mark a “watershed” between the movies produced during 1950s-1980s and those produced from 1990-2000. Both of these musical eras had distinct characteristics in different ways. In place of erstwhile well known music composers and directors, as well as playback singers, a new crop came up, as some well known music directors as well as actors were no more, unfortunately due to their premature demise.

The organizers designated the event as “Dil to Pagal Hai”, as this movie had become very popular in 1990, with star-studded cast Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit singing this melodious song, besides Karishma Kapoor as a supporting actress.

The principal singer performers at this musical event were: Dimplebhai Patel, Sachin Srivatsava, Anuja Surlaker, Puja Paranjpe and Deepti Venkat.

Deepti, being also a dancer, apart from her singing skills, added a new dimension to the theme. Some of the most popular songs of 90’s selected for performance at this concert were: Dil to Pagal Hai (rendered by Puma and Dimplebhai). The musical event had about 23 filmi songs presented by the team of singers and due to space constraint, a few highlights are provided here, as follows:

1. Yeh Dil sun raha hai (Khamoshi) – by Anuja 2.Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai (Hum Aapake Koun Hai) Sachin 3.Kahi Aag lage lag jaye (Taal) – Puja 4. Kehra hai kyya (Bombay) – Deepti 5. Ishq Bina Kya jeena Yaaron (Taal) Puja, Dimple and Sachin) 6. Ye kali kali Ankhe (Baazigar) – Dimple 7. Ye Nazanabi (Dil se) Sachin 9. Odh lee Chunariya (Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya) Sachin and Anuja. 10. Jarasa Jhumalu main Dilwale Dulhaniya le jayenge (Deepti and Dimple) and the last one (11) Tare Hai Baraati- Dimple and Guest Singer Anisha Bakshi.

All these songs presented were tantalizing and received thunderous applause, from the audience.

The musical program was emceed by the well known Urdu poet Annie Ji Akthar, who with her mellifluous Urdu+ Hindi language quoted several shayarees and anecdotes, gave interesting details about the theme of the event, narrating how movie music of 90’s was quite distinct from the earlier music era spanning from 1950s-80s.

Sangeet Dhwani, a community based organization promoted and publicized this event. Anita Amin had done a lot of marketing and publicity for the event and her efforts were appreciated. The Musicians’ Band was awesome to make all songs so soulful. Sound was well managed by Edwin and his team.

Lastly, the organizers had invited Dr Romesh Japra, President of Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) as the Chief Guest. Dr Japra commended the excellent performance of Bay Area talented singers and observed that local talent needs be given high priority for such events.

He announced a few important details about the 23rd Annual Festival of India Parade scheduled by FIA on August 15 and 16 at the Paseo Padre Park way, Fremont with the Grand Parade on August 16 which will be attended by movie stars Rani Mukherji, Neha Dhupia, Kangana Ranaut, Irfan Khan as well as popular play back singer Sonu Nigam.
