Lohri celebrated at Fremont Hindu Temple with great fanfare

FREMONT: Fremont Hindu Temple celebrated Lohri festival this year with great fanfare. Devotees celebrated the festival with traditional songs, bonfire and dancing. Dr Romesh Japra, President and Convener FIA, led the celebrations and regaled the audience with stories about the Lohri tradition.

Lohri is celebrated to denote the winter solstice. Apart from Punjab, people from other northern Indian states of the Punjab region (Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh), Chandigarh and Jammu also celebrate Lohri.

Singing and dancing form a key part of the celebrations. People wear bright colorful clothes and come to dance the B and G to the beat of the dhol. Sarson da Saag and Makki di Roti is usually served as the main course at a Lohri dinner.

Lohri is a great occasion that holds great importance for people as this festival provides the opportunity to interact with family and friends.
