CHICAGO: Rajinder Singh and Navinder Kaur Mago and their family of Wayne, a north side Chicago suburb , were recently honored by Asian Chronicle USA TV Channel Program with an Asian American Humanitarian and Model Family Award at Sheraton Four Points Hotel, in Schiller Park, Illinois.
The Asian Model Family Award is given by the Asian TV channel to the families which are cohesive role models for others to emulate, extend numerous civic and community services here and/or in their native countries, and they impact the positive image of Asians in America.
The Mago family has remained thoroughly engrossed in community service roles and American mainstream participation since their arrival in America from Punjab India nearly forty years ago.
Rajinder Singh Mago was also honored with lifetime service award presented by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in recognition and appreciation of his commitment to strengthening our nation and for making a difference through volunteer service. Mago is co-founder and permanent board of governors of the Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago. He served it also as President in 1996 and 2010. He was as well the president of Sikh American Heritage Organization in 1994.
Mago is on the Asian American Coalition of Chicago Chairmen’s board and was the Co-chairman of its 1995 and 2003 Lunar New Year Celebrations hosted by the Indian American Community. He has served the Council for a Parliament of World’s Religions (C.P.W.R.), since 1993 in several positions including its vice president. Since 2010 he is a trustee emeritus.
A graduate of Punjab University, Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, India, Mago is also is a graduate of Citizens Academy FBI Chicago region and winner of the FBI Director’s Leadership Award. A registered Professional Engineer with the State of Illinois, he has worked with a major corporation for the last 36 years.
Rajinder is married to Navinder since 1974 and they have two daughters Simeren Kaur and Amrith Kaur Aakre, and a son Satnaam Singh Mago who is in college.
Rajinder and Navinder and the family took care of his retired and ailing parents in his home here for 28 years till they passed away not too long ago.
