Los Angeles: The popular Mexican restaurant, Chipotle Mexican Grill, announced on Friday that their hackers had taken up their customer’s payment information using malware.

Data, such as consumers’ account numbers, expiration data and verification codes had been obtained, between March 24 and April 18. According to its company spokesperson, Chris Arnold, around 2,249 restaurants were affected by this data theft.

“Because of the nature of the incident and the data involved, we lack sufficient information to determine how many unique payment cards may have been involved,” he added.

The restaurant chain has asked people to check their credit card statements for any illegitimate activity and report them immediately. “Payment card rules generally provide that cardholders are not responsible for unauthorized charges reported in a timely manner.” –New Source
