SANTA CLARA: Shalini Saxena Dance Academy has a history of producing elegant and very well organized shows like Sur Shringaar, Bahaar-e-Shaam, and Sham-e-Raqs at Santa Clara Convention Center Theater.
Another such show was the maiden performance of a nightingale of India, Radhika Chopra, at the Santa Clara Convention Center Theater on Sunday, September 19. The concert turned out to be a resounding success.
Radhika Chopra took us on a nostalgic trip down memory lane to the era where melody was queen. Soulful rendition of her own compositions as also her tribute to the legendary stalwarts of yesteryears, ranging from the King of Ghazals, K.L. Saighal and Pankaj Mallik to Geeta Dutt and Mallika-e-Taranum, Noor Jehan resulted in her receiving standing ovation by the audience who were genuinely moved to tears by the pathos and the intensity of feelings in her voice.
The more she sang, the more was the appetite of the audience whetted so much so that at the end of it all one was left asking for more.
The melodious concert of Radhika Chopra enthralled one and all and though like all good things it came to an end, the one redeeming feature was that Radhika Ji promised to come again to mesmerize us in the foreseeable future.
The evening commenced with the US national Anthem sung beautifully by Supna Saxena.
The concert was interspersed with charming Kathak dances on Tarana, Thumri, and Holi by the students of Shalina Saxena Dance Academy. Radhika Ji was brilliantly accompanied by Master Percussionist, Manesh Judge on Tabla, Maestro Jagdev Singh on Harmonium, and guitar virtuoso, Mike Anand.
