Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who came to limelight after his brilliant performance in the 2012 film ‘Kahaani’ starring Vidya Balan, said he was honored at receiving the Best Actor award for his film ‘Haraamkhor’ at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).
“I’m feeling very honored to have received such a prestigious award at a big festival like this one. Thanking all for love and support always,” Nawazuddin said in a statement.
The plot of the film ‘Haraamkhor’ is based in Gujarat. The film is about a married school teacher who gets romantically involved with one of his students. The movie marks the Bollywood debut of actress Shweta Tripathi, who plays the role of the student involved with the teacher whose role is essayed by Nawazuddin. It is directed by Shlok Sharma and produced by Anurag Kashyap.
‘Haramkhor’ had also screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, where Shweta won the Best Actress award and shared it with Kalki Koechlin, who won it for ‘Margarita With A Straw’.
Nawazuddin’s role as the cigarette-smoking IB official Khan in Sujoy Ghosh’s directorial ‘Kahaani’ catapulted him to fame. Thereafter he was cast in major films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2’, and the Aamir Khan starrer ‘Talaash’, two of which fetched him the National Film Award in the category Special Jury Award.
He had done a cameo in the song ‘Emotional Atyachar’ of 2009 film Dev D. Prior to this he also appeared in blink-and-miss roles in movies like ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Shool’ and ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. He has worked in many critically acclaimed films that were screened at film festivals across the world and won several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film ‘The Lunchbox’. The award winning talent will also be seen in the Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ which is slated for release on July 17.
