NEW YORK: New York City health officials have delayed a ban on CBD additives to food and drink until summer, after first imposing it earlier this year.
Restaurants, cafes and bars now have till June 30 to educate themselves on reasons for banning the cannabis compound.
Many businesses were caught offguard when the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene suddenly announced CBD-infused products could not be sold in city food service establishments. Officials cited a Federal Food and Drug Administration ruling that CBD is not a safe additive.
Starting in October, violators could be fined at least $200 and restaurant letter grades could suffer.
