CHICAGO: Overseas Friends of BJP Chicago organized a celebration on May 18 to mark the historic victory of BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

More than 200 non-resident Indians joined the event at Best Western Plus banquet hall in Schaumburg.

The program started with recorded victory speech of Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi and the crowd cheered him with chants of Vande Mataram and “Bar Bar Modi Sarkar”.

Vrinda Pandav kicked off the program officially with Vande Mataram song.

Consul General of India Dr Ausuf Sayeed attended the event with his wife and addressed the gathering as chief guest. Dr Sayeed drew the attention of the audience to huge demographic dividend for India resulting from high proportion of Indian population being under the age of 35.

This fact was also mentioned by Prime Minister elect Modi several times during his electoral campaign. Senior HSS leader Saumitra Gokhale was also present on the occasion. Senior community leader Amrit Mittal, former OFBJP USA president Subramanya Vemuri and Amar Upadhyay, Vice President of OFBJP USA, addressed the gathering.

Global India Bharat Vikas and OFBJP youth coordinator Nirav Patel shared his experience of campaigning in India in Anand and Khera, two of the toughest constituencies for BJP in Gujarat.

Other highlights of the event were a dance performance by Abby Mohan, recitation of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s poem by Manjari V. and songs sung by Jitendra Bulsara.

Vandana Jinghan and Jitendra Diganvekar MCed the event on behalf of OFBJP. The mood of the gathering was triumphant and upbeat.
