CHICAGO: The Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) has slated its flagship event “Rangla Punjab 2011″ to celebrate Vaisakhi festival on Saturday April 23 at 7 p.m. in Copernicus Theater (formerly known as Gateway Theater) Auditorium, in Chicago.
PCS has been organizing this traditional Punjabi cultural program for more than two decades. This is the single largest annual Punjabi cultural variety event in Chicago area that showcases the Punjabi performing arts and promotes the local community talent. A gathering of 2000 is expected where more than 250 local artists from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana will display their best. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. sharp.
The highlights of the nearly three-hour program are Punjabi folk dances, songs and music. Program sponsorship opportunities and several attractive package options are also available. Limited space for merchandise vendor booths in the lobby area is also available, according to Rajinder Singh Mago, a spokesman. “We are trying to get our next generation involved in our cultural arts activities and promote volunteerism,” said Balwinder Girn, the PCS president.
Popular Punjabi dances Bhangra and Gidha, Punjabi music and songs, comedy skits, and many other items will be presented. The program has been sold out in many previous years. Parking is free and children under 10 are admitted free.
