Poetry meet in honor of Gulzar

NEW DELHI: ‘Ye kaisa ishq hai Urdu zaban kaa’ the popular poem by eminent lyricist Gulzar was performed by Sanket on the occasion of the writer’s 84th birthday here. ‘Inspire Urdu’ along with Club 2:1 hosted the event to honor Gulzar Saab’s contribution to Indian theatre and cinema. The show consisted of young performers and audience who found their resonance with love for the language and appreciated the works of historic Urdu poets.
Insight into the immortal Shayaris of Amir Khusro to Mirza Ghalib , Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Gulzar was given by Shamshad Alam, who is also an active RJ of Jamia Radio. While poetry and dialogue was sprouting during the Shandar Shaam, self composed Nazm of Atiya Aleesha and recitations of popular Urdu prose of Faiz & Indori Saab heightened the Charm of the evening.
The participants were infused with Urdu spirit while playing Bait Bazi (Antakshri of Shayari) while Shamshad Alam inspired the audience to recite at least one Sher of their favorite poet. The program concluded with the iconic poetry of Mirza Galib ‘Yu hota to kya hota’.
