rPlaced perfectly along the lusting greeneries of the hills and foothills of Shivalik mountain ranges in Uttarakhand, Rajaji National Park is well known for its verdant scenic beauty and is enriched with worthy bio diversity. Established in 1983, Rajaji National Park is formed by amalgamating three famous sanctuaries namely Rajaji Sanctuary, Chilla sanctuary and Motichur sanctuary. The Rajaji National Park got its name after the renowned Indian statesman Sri C. Rajgopalachariya, popularly known as Rajaji.

The National Park is a large protected region of area nearly 820 square km spreading over three districts Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar and Dehradun of Uttarakhand state in India.

This National Park is rich in flora and fauna and forms the Shivalik ecological balances of the natural system. The Shivalik track is assumed to be more than 10 million years old and the area is enriched with valuable fossils. The Park is rich with the flow of majestic Ganges for about a distance of 24km. The park’s diversity and rich vegetation owes it to Ganges and many other streams and brooks.

The Park comprises rich vegetation including grassy lands, board leaved mixed forests, Sal forests and scrublands. This area houses a large variety of birds and animals; they include mammals of different species, snakes, rare lizards, frogs and other types of amphibians, kinds of butterfliesr1

Rajaji National Park is a perfect place for nature loving tourists, to mix up with the natural vegetation, animals, reptiles and birds. The park is open to public all the days from mid November to mid June.

During rainy season it remains closed. Accommodation facilities are available for tourists in the forest rest houses. This magnificent park provides handful of chances to nature lovers and genuine tourists to make merry in the wild life, lusting scenery and captivating landscapes.

Tourist Attractions

Jungle Safari: To enjoy the wild life and nature in its pristine form, the jungle safari in Rajaji National park is a perfect option. The enchanting experiences of nature walks, Jungle safari by walk or by vehicle at Rajaji National Park is really awesome.

Adventurous tourists can venture out for Jeep Safaris and Elephant Safaris in the 34 km long tracks of Rajaji National Park. One can take a breath taking safari through hilly terrains, green valleys and plains, undulating forest tracks, vegetated river beds, thick and dense forest lands and unexplored sprawling grasslands.

During the safari one can spot many wild animals including Asian Elephants, Tiger and King Cobra, Panther, Bear, Chital, Sambar, Wild Boar, Kakar, Python, Monitor Lizard, Wild Cats. You can also spot many birds and many species of different plants, shrubs and trees.

Chandi Devi Temple: Chandi Devi Temple, placed ideally on a hillock named as Neel Parvat near Rajaji National Park was constructed in 1929 by the King of Kashmir, Suchat Singh. The hill and the temple are on the banks of the sacred river Ganges. The main deity is Chandi Devi and it is believed that the idol of the goddess was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.

Bird Watching: Bird watching is a celebration in Rajaji National Park. The Bird sanctuary in the wetland of Assan Barrage is located near the convergence of two rich rivers, Yamuna and Assan.

The region is a paradise for bird watchers and Nature loving enthusiasts. This area contains many endangered species of rare birds. Even though the declared Sanctuary is small in area, the region is amazingly rich with domestic and migratory birds. This barrage is a halting place for many trans-Himalayan migratory birds, during their travel to southern India and also during their return.

Best season to visit here is from October to June.

By Air: Nearest airport is Jollygrant which is 21 km away from Rajaji National Park and is situated in Dehradun. Jollygrant airport is well connected to Delhi airport.

By Bus: Rajaji National Park is well connected to many cities in the region by buses. Private and public buses offer services from Rajaji National Park to Haridwar (43 km), Rishikesh (14 km), Dehradun (21 km) and also to Delhi (223 km).
