RCF rolls out seventeen coaches for first high speed trainKAPURTHALA: Rail Coach Factory today rolled out seventeen coaches of first high speed train of 160 kilometre per hour to run on the Delhi-Agra section soon, a senior RCF official said here today.

The first rake comprising 17 coaches which include three executive chair cars, twelve chair cars and two power cars were today handed over to Northern Railway, RCF General Manager Pramod Kumar said.

He said that the Railway Board and Northern Railway would decide the timings and date when to run the high speed train on Delhi-Agra section.

Kumar said that the coaches would reach New Delhi in a day or two.

Narrating the salient features of high speed coaches, he said some additional facilities like provision of automatic sliding of inner doors and passengers information system have been added in these coaches.

The automatic sliding doors will open with a finger touch and remain open as long as passengers pass through the door, he said.

The inner door will automatically close when there is no obstruction on the passage of the door.

Similarly, passengers information system would provide information regarding train stoppages and its expected time to reach the next stop at railway station and remaining distance to cover and the train speed, he said.

The high speed coaches manufactured in RCF for Shatabdi and Rajdhani express trains are capable of running at the optimum speed of 160 kilometer per hour.

The railway board and officials had already conducted a trial on Delhi-Agra section at a speed of 160 kilometer and covered the 200 kilometer distance in 99 minutes, few months ago, said a railway official.

The railways has already selected ten routes on which high speed trains would run as announced by railway minister in his budget speech.

He said initially speed of these trains would be 160 kilometer on select rail routes and gradually speed would be enhanced up to 200 kilometer after upgrading the signaling system, barricading the area.

The RCF has also started working on the high speed coaches capable of running at a speed of 200 kilometer per hour by making some changes like automatic outer doors, changes in braking system with the provision of electro pneumatic brakes, noise reduction with better sound insulation, provision of TV set on the back of every seat in the executive chair cars and Wi-Fi system besides improved vestibules, the GM said.

He said that high speed coach cable of running at 200 kilometer per hour expected be rolled out by June next year.–PTI
