CHICAGO: Shere Punjab Sports & Cultural Club, Chicago held its 8th Annual Kabaddi Cup Tournament “Chicago Kabaddi Cup 2014, Volley Ball and Cultural Program” on Sunday, August 31 at Busse Woods Forest Preserve South, in Elk Grove Village that turned out to be a big festival of fun, food and sports.
People not only from Chicagoland area but from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin came in large numbers to enjoy this event. The Kabaddi and Volleyball teams from Detroit, Arkansas, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Chicago participated in the tournament. In the evening famous Punjabi folk singer Sarbjeet Cheema entertained guests with his Punjabi hit songs for more than three hours. Raghbir Singh (GHUN) from Houston was the Chief Guest.
In the open Kabaddi Cup matches the first prize was won by the Punjab Sport Club [PSC] Milwaukee. They defeated Shere Punjab Sports and Cultural Club, Chicago.
In the Volleyball tournament, the first First Prize was won by Shahid Bhagat Singh Club, Chicago. Second prize went to Go Green club of Madison. The prize sponsor was Amarjit Singh Ghindsa.
Chairman of the club Harinderjit Dhaliwal, President Hardeep Bandesha and all Members of the Board thanked all the spectators, sponsors and supporters. The whole event was telecast live by Global Punjab Channel.
Priests recited prayer and tournament was declared open by blowing balloons.
The cultural program started with a song by Jesse Singh, a local singer. Sarbjeet Cheema, who acted in Punjabi movies, sang a song describing how Punjab is a true treasure in this world. He sang ‘Mela Vekhdiye Mutiyare’ and Rang Rara Riri Rara.’ The audience enjoyed his songs. The program was about Punjabi songs and dances.

Raffle tickets were also sold and the draw was done where winners were given prizes of TV and laptop.
