NEW YORK: “If you become a spiritual person, you could accomplish anything. The amount of weight, he was moving was unheard of,” says Wayne DeMilia, Chairman, International Federation of Bodybuilders, in the film ‘Challenging Impossibility’ about India-born spiritual teacher Sri Chinmoy.
The film premiered May 1, at the world renowned Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, which was attended by the World’s Strongest Man 2002 Hugo Girard, Olympic legend Carl Lewis and three-time Mr. Olympia bodybuilder Frank Zane, whose statements are shown in the film.
“You almost feel like gravity stops,” states Carl Lewis on the screen, who was lifted by Sri Chinmoy on a platform together with a 2500 kg elephant by 2.5 inches.
Produced by Sanjay Rawal and Natabara Rollosson of New York the short film features Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007).
Five-time Mr. Universe Bill Pearl said, “Even the greatest bodybuilder in his prime wouldn’t attempt to lift like Sri Chinmoy. Sri Chinmoy took up the sport at the age of 53 years. “He performed his own strenuous feats to spread his message of world harmony and inner peace,” wrote the New York Times reporting about the premiere of ‘Challenging Impossibility’.
The film also shares Sri Chinmoy’s philosophy that age should never be a barrier to achieving one’s dreams, that, as he said, “Age is in the mind, and not in the heart.”
The film shows musician Sting, President Nelson Mandela and Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu being lifted by Sri Chinmoy on a honorary platform overhead. After being honored Desmond Tutu says to Sri Chinmoy: “You are part of the spiritual force of love that emanates from God and which will transform the world.”
