Three sons of Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan presenting Shaam-e-Ghazal in Chicagoland

CHICAGO: Urdu Times presented a Ghazal concert, “Shaam-e-Ghazal, a Tribute to Ghazal Maestro Mehdi Hassan” at the Monty’s Banquet Hall in Bensenville, a north side Chicago suburb on Friday January 21. It was planned by his three sons, Kamran, Imran and Zaheer who are in their own right great Ghazal singers.

Mehdi Hassan, as Ghazal lovers know him as a master in music, deserved the spectacular tribute.

They performed wonderfully not only showing their love and devotion to their father but also taking the audience with them, reliving the career of legendary master. They showed that he had raised them imbued in music.

The classical music played by the trio was greeted with loud applause. The audience was regaled with each word sung, each note hit, each pounding of the Tabla, and each keystroke. Each member of the audience knew what to expect, but received much more than what they had hoped for.

The pedigree of the 16th generation of music in this family was evident.

While his sons regaled with a live performance in US, Mehdi Hassan is getting treatment at the Aga Khan University hospital in Pakistan. By his side is another son, Arif Shah.

Sponsors of this event were Asia Motors, American Family Insurance Millrun Tours, AM Travel, Falak Fashion, Sahil Boutique, Chandani Boutique, National Heating and Cooling, the MRI image of west Chicago, Reliance Insurance, Urgent Tax Service, Usmania Restaurant and Asian Island Grocery (Hafiz Khalil).

The hosts, Jawaid Riaz, Masroor Qurshe, Hameed Vllaha, Colonel Wamia, Zakir Sabri and Tariq Khawaja did a remarkable job.
