CHICAGO: South Asian community activists from Cook, DuPage and Kane counties met with Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth and her staffers on March 20 at her new campaign office in Hanover Park.

Raja Krishnamoorthi led the talks on behalf of the group. He thanked the Congresswoman for her outreach towards the South Asian community. Thakar Basati thanked Congresswoman Duckworth for coming to meet and greet worshippers at the Palatine Gurudwara, Sunday, March 16.

Tammy Duckworth said that she had enjoyed the warmth and hospitality. She also stated that her staff, through the Community Outreach Program, would come to places of worship and non-profit events, to meet, listen and address the issues and concerns of her constituents in the 8th Congressional District.

Duckworth agreed to remain in close contact with the community leaders and her staff has already set up a follow-up meeting to discuss plans to further engage the community. She encouraged political participation of the South Asian community and thanked all who had worked in her last election campaign.

Nazneen Hashmi, Balbir Singh, Fouad Zubair, Syed H Zafer and others participated in the lively discussion. The meeting was productive. Community issues were discussed and the activists expressed their thanks and confidence in Duckworth’s leadership.
