CHICAGO: District 1A – Mother District of Lionism held their Annual District Convention at the Westin Hotel, Northwest, Chicago on March 28, 29 and 30 with great colors. Over 500 Lions, Lionesses, Leos and guests were in attendance.

The convention elected Terry D’Souza as Governor for District 1A. This is the second time in the history of 98 years of Lionism in District 1A that a woman was elected as district governor and the first time in the history of Lionism in the US that a woman governor of Indian origin got elected to this post.

Larry Dicus, International Director from California along with his wife Jane were the International guests for the convention.

District 1A is a much diversified district in Lionism in the US filled with various ethnic clubs to name a few – Filipinos, Mexicans, Puerto Ricon, Ecuadorians, Indians, Pakistanis, Whites and Blacks.

Terry D’Souza is wife of two terms District Governor of District 1A Dr. Austin Prabhu who belongs to The Forest Kala Sampath Lions Club. Dr. Austin already has set a record by being District Governor for two terms and also by being the first Indian Origin District Governor from District 1A. Once Terry gets inducted at the 97th International Convention in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Austin & Terry will become the first governor couple from District 1A.

US President’s Council for Voluntary Service Awards member Dr. Austin Prabhu presented Larry Dicus with a Life Time Voluntary Service Award for his dedication to improve humanity in his communities.

Ralph Zarada was elected as the First Vice District Governor and Ernie Lapid elected as the II Vice District Governor. For District 1A Lions of Illinois Foundation Trustee, Frank Kirar got elected.
