TUCSON, ARIZ.: Officials say troops are placing razor wire on the tops of fencing near ports of entry in Arizona, aiming to prevent a rush to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Arizona Daily Star reports Rodolfo Karisch, commander of the Joint Task Force-West, says they are preparing for the possibility that groups might try to burst through the U.S. border as some migrants did at the Guatemala-Mexico border.
About 1,500 U.S. troops have been deployed to southern Arizona to support the Border Patrol in preparation for the slow-moving caravan of Central American migrants headed to the U.S.
Arturo Garino, a former Nogales mayor who has been elected for a new term, says he has disapproved of razor wire in the past, and he doesn’t see a need for it now. AP
