Yoga sessions at various college campuses

yoga-webFLORIDA: Hindu Students Council (HSC), will partner with Overseas Volunteers for a Better India (OVBI) to celebrate the International Day of Yoga – Yogathon campaign – on June 21.

HSC will be holding yoga sessions and programs at various college campuses and in the community as part of this initiative.

Announcing this initiative and partnership, Ravindra Jaishankar, President of Hindu Students Council, said, “Yoga is India’s oldest and best developed holistic system for spiritual and personal development. It has been perfected over millennia by the Rishis (ancient Hindu sages) and has benefited hundreds of millions across the world. And yet today it has been stripped of its vital core, Dharma, and the result is a misunderstood and misused system which is reduced to a few postures.”

The HSC initiative will therefore aim to shed light on a proper appreciation of and respect for Yoga via a combination of yoga workshops and information sessions, he added.

“Yoga will also be one of the key topics of HSC’s Global Dharma Conference 2015, being held at the New Jersey Convention & Exposition Center, on September 11-13,” said Nikunj Trivedi, Chairman of Hindu Students Council. “The conference’s theme of ‘Dharma for the Inner World’ will feature workshops, talks and discussions around the philosophy of yoga and how to integrate it into our lives in order to bring inner harmony and peace.” The conference is expected to feature renowned teachers and experts who will share their wisdom on Yoga.

Yogathon sessions are being planned at various universities in the New York and New Jersey areas. In addition, HSC will be working with various community based organizations such as OVBI to encourage students on summer vacation to attend Yogathons in their respective local states.
