The Zee Cine Awards 2014 saw the glamorous Deepika Padukone win the Best Actor (Female) Popular trophy for ‘Chennai Express’.
Deepika’s role as Meenalochni Azhagusundaram in ‘Chennai Express’ and her Tamil accent in the film was much appreciated. Her characters as Naina in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and Leela in ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ were praised, too.
Deepika won the award defeating her competitors Parineeti Chopra, nominated for ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’, Shraddha Kapoor for ‘Aashiqui 2’ and Sonam Kapoor for ‘Raanjhanaa’.
She got a surprise, when one of her secret admirers replayed a scene of her on stage. It was none other than the famous television comedian Bharti Singh, who decided to do the brave task of carrying her up from her chair on to the stage and without any cuts. While the actress was truly surprised, she played along with Bharti, who also presented the best film nominations for 2013
