Bollywood celebrities made their presence felt at the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Among the Bollywood divas who walked the Cannes red carpet this year were:
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
With her head held high and the glow of motherhood radiating in every direction and smacking in the face all those who had been having a good ol time commenting on her weight, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan walked the red carpet at Cannes in a blue Elie Saab creation, non-skinny and carefree. She still rules Bollywood and she knows it very well.
Considering her previous appearances at Cannes, some of which have been downright hideous, who would have thought 2012 would be the year when the Indian beauty finally got it right.
Speaking about the film festival, she said: “Cannes this year is very special for me; it is my 10th year with L’Oréal Paris and my 11th year at the Cannes film festival and most importantly I’m here with my daughter making it incredibly special.
“The festival is only getting better each year and I have the L’Oréal Paris team to help me with my hair and makeup.”
Freida Pinto
The Slumdog Millionnaire star was seen on the red carpet multiple times frolicking with Jane Fonda and other Hollywood biggies. Following Angelina Jolie’s footsteps, Freida chose the thigh-high slit road to make her fashion statement.
Her lime green Atelier Versace gown showed off her slender leg perfectly.
Mallika Sherawat
The bold and the beautiful lady was spotted twice on the Cannes red carpet, both times in nude-colored gowns. Yes, it is nude but don’t take it too literally as the diva seems to be going for a style makeover.
The gown she chose this year is a far cry from the black number she wore last year. The Ali Mahdavi creation, that was literally stitched on to her body, with the little hoodie could only be described as subdued and conservative and the sweat patches as a major fashion faux pas.
Sonam Kapoor
Sonam has not been whacked by the lucky stick as far as acting skills are concerned but when it comes to fashion, she knows exactly what she is doing. The actress has emerged as somewhat of a fashion icon in Bollywood. Last year, she walked the carpet in a gorgeous white gown and nobody was complaining. This year, she decided to make her fashion statement in a black and white Naem Khan creation. Though a black dress with giant white spots is not everyone’s cup of tea, Sonam made it work, being the classy fashionista she is.
Kalki Koechlin
She is no conventional beauty. She’s quirky and crazy and people love her for it, but Kalki Koechlin at Cannes seems to have been a bit of a failure. First she was seen in a drab all-beige full length gown with only a black neck piece and Anurag Kashyap as accessories. Then, she turned up on the red carpet in a pretty tulle half-sari that she ruined with something in her hair that looked downright strange.
